REFLECTION : XIAMEN TRIP- Amelia Lynge 5C

Of course, I enjoyed my time in Xiamen. I learnt a lot from this experience, like how to be independent. I have realized how lucky I am to be in Singapore when I saw all the beggars on the streets. We have no beggars in Singapore!

The eight days in China has been the longest time I have been without my parents so far in my lifetime. It has given me an idea of how life will be like overseas on my own when I am older. My first night in Xiamen was sleepless as I was very homesick. Nobody was there to nag me to sleep, tell me stories and tuck me in. Luckily, I got used to my sleeping surroundings and slept well the next few nights.

I also improved my oral communication in Chinese. I am now skilled at using Room Service, especially in Chinese! The ladies from Room Service were very nice to Edna and I, and they praised me for my well-spoken Chinese although I am not a full Chinese. I was proud of myself as Chinese is not my mother tongue and yet people say that I speak the language well. I hope I can go to China again and further improve my Chinese oral communication in future.

The training I went through also helped me to understand more about Wushu tactics and techniques. In Singapore, I thought that I was very good at Wushu. However, in China, I realized that I was nothing compared to the Jimei University team. The trainers taught us ‘ Eagle Claw’ , a routine that not many people know how to do in Singapore. Learning something unique and unusual is something to cherish forever, and that is what I did. The trainers were also very patient with us although we could not do things properly. I will always remember the trainers and the Jimei University team and I hope I can see them again.

Going home to Singapore was as hard as leaving to China. I was scared that I would forget my experience after I left Xiamen. Fortunately, I can still remember clearly how I spent my days in China. Besides bonding with other people from China, I also built an even stronger friendship with my own friends from Nanyang Primary School. I learnt how they spend time and behave at home. I hope I can have another experience like this as I will leave Nanyang Primary next year and will go to secondary school. I do not want to forget my primary years.
