The moment we touched down in Xiamen, we
were all happy. Although I left Singapore with a heavy heart, I knew this trip
would be good for me. As I could learn to be independent and at the same time improve
my Wushu.
Upon arrival we went to the university
hotel that we were going to stay at for the upcoming 8 days. After taking a
short rest in the hotel, we headed for the supermarket. It was a rather long
walk to the supermarket and my legs were very tired. After finishing our
shopping, we headed back to the hotel. On the way back, we were complaining of
aching feet.
The next four and a half days was training.
Every morning, we had to walk a long distance before arriving at the training
area. Thus, we all found out that Jimei University was a rather big University.
During the training days, we learnt a new
routine, the ‘Eagle Claw’. The actions in the routine were supposed to be
imitating the eagle.
Friday had finally arrived, I was elated as
on that day we had only half a day of training and outings started on that day.
The first place we went to was the turtle garden. I was expecting to see
turtles there but it turned out that it was called turtle garden because of a
famous businessman and educator, Mr Tan Kah Kee’s grave was built there in the
shape of a turtle shell, thus its name.
The next day, we visted Hulishan Cannon
Platform. We learnt that the Chinese in China hated the Taiwanese. They thought
of the Taiwanese as traitors who were always supporting Sun Yat Sen.
We also visited a tea house. There, we
tasted 4 different teas. They were all special and unique. We learnt that in
Yunnan, the women did the work, and of course climbing up trees to pick tea
leaves were done by them too.
We then proceeded to Gulang Island. This is
a island that was near Xiamen. We visited the piano museum that was at
Shunzhuang garden. We saw many nice pianos of the past.
Dinner that day was at a five star hotel in
Xiamen. We learnt how to roll popiahs by ourselves. After dinner we went to
Zhongshan road.We went shopping! That was the BEST part of the entire trip. We
were all exhausted and tired after a day of outing but we sure had fun!
We departed the next day. We were all happy
and excited about going back to Singapore, though we would miss everyone we met
here. We would get to see our parents again!
I feel that this trip was a good experience
for me. Training was also a test of perserverance. It has helped my wushu to
improve. Overall it was fun and I hope to go for more of such activities.
